A few weeks ago, Evolution Gaming unveiled their roadmap for the end of 2021 with a list of exciting new games. Players did not have to wait long to see the first game on this list being unveiled at online casinos with Starburst XXXTreme. Developed by Red Tiger, the provider bought out earlier by Evolution, this slot marked the real beginning of the implementation of this famous roadmap.
Last week we presented the brand new live game from the same provider: Cash or Crash. This new game is based on the famous crash games, the sensation of the moment, and is already attracting a large number of players.
Today, it is a new live game that will be featured, but this time a table game. In this short article, Lucky7Bonus introduces you to Fan Tan Live, a new creation from Evolution Gaming, and describes how it works and its rules.
Evolution Gaming in a nutshell
If you've ever visited a quality online casino, then you've probably heard of Evolution Gaming. This company is a provider of online games and they are one of the major players in online gambling. They design, develop and publish slot machines and other online games.
Evolution is not a simple provider, but rather a real giant in the market. This company has managed to create a leading position for itself by standing out from the competition with totally original ideas. In order to bring the land-based casino experience to online players, Evolution has set up studios, where table games with real dealers are filmed and broadcasted live in online casinos.
Players immediately loved this closeness and realism, which propelled the provider to new heights. In addition to the classic table games, the team had the incredible idea of setting up some sort of televised games in which players can participate, again with a host in a studio, all broadcast live.
Today, it is a very old and rather appreciated table game in Asia, that Evolution proposes to its players and that we decide to present you.
Fan Tan explanations
Created around the 3rd century, this game has been very popular in China for hundreds of years and yet chances are you have never played it before. Although it looks very complicated at first, you will find that its basic operation is quite simple.
The game is played on a red table where a dealer handles white balls with a golden rake and a golden cup of some sort.
The balls are brought together with the help of the transparent bell before a game is randomly selected with the help of the golden cup.
This number of separate marbles is selected by chance and is what makes this game so important. Indeed, this group of marbles will be divided into smaller groups of 4 marbles little by little, until only 4 marbles or less remain.
It is on this last result that the players bet: 1, 2, 3 or 4 marbles left.
The different bets at Fan Tan
While the dealer (or more often, the croupier) shuffles the balls with the bell and separates them by taking a portion of them in a cup, the players can place their bets.
Several types of bets are possible, some are very simple while others are a little more sophisticated.
For the simplest type of bet, you will have 4 different outcomes to bet on:
The exact number of balls remaining at the end of the split: 1, 2, 3 or 4. If you win, you win 3 times your original bet and a 5% commission is charged, bringing the total multiplier to x2.85. Your original bet is returned to you if you are successful. Your chances of winning are ¼ with the possibility of getting 3.85 times your total bet back
Even/Odd. You can also bet on the outcome by betting on an even or odd number of balls remaining after the split. An even number means 2 or 4 balls left, while an odd number means 1 or 3 balls left. If you are successful, you win one time your original bet and a 5% commission is charged, bringing the win to 0.95 times your bet. This is also returned to you if you are successful. Your chances of winning are then ½ with the possibility of recovering 1.95 times your bet in total
Small/Big. This type of bet is about the amount of balls left after the split. By betting on "small" you are counting on the fact that 1 or 2 balls will remain at the end of the count. By betting on "big", you are betting on the fact that 3 or 4 balls will remain at the end of the count. If you are successful, you win one time your original bet and a 5% commission is charged, bringing the win to 0.95 times your bet. This is also returned to you if you are successful. Your chances of winning are then ½ with the possibility of recovering 1.95 times your stake in total
Other, more advanced bets are available at Fan Tan. Popular with experienced players, these types of bets add some sort of insurance to each round of play.
Some of the bets Evolution considers more complicated are actually very similar to regular bets: bets called Kwok are corner bets where the player bets on the exact outcome of the number of balls remaining after the split:
Kwok 1 and 4
Kwok 2 and 3
Kwok 1 and 2
Kwok 3 and 4
As you can see, the last two bets are identical to the "Small" and "Big" bets.
Bets called Nim, allow the player to ensure that they get their initial bet back in certain cases where the bet loses. In addition to betting on an exact number of balls remaining after the split, the player chooses a second outcome. If either bet is the correct outcome, the bet is recovered. However, if the first bet is won, the winnings are 2 times the original bet instead of 3.
Let's look at a simple example with a 1 Nim 3 bet. The player bets on the following result: after the pile of balls is separated, only one ball will remain. He still ensures that he will get his money back if the final result is 3 balls:
If the result is 1 marble: the player wins 2 times his initial stake, minus 5% commission and gets his stake back
If the result is 3 balls: the player gets back the original bet, this result is called a push
If the result is 2 or 4 balls: the player loses his bet
The last possible bets at Fan Tan are called Ssh. The player simply bets on 3 different outcomes. This gives him 3 out of 4 chances to win. The winnings are therefore smaller and equal to 0.316667 times the original bet plus the payback.
If a player bets, for example, on Ssh 1-4-3 he wins if the final result is one, three or four balls left after the split. If 2 balls remain at the end of the draw, the player loses the bet.
To access the advanced bets, simply click on the "more bets" icon located in the lower right corner of the game screen.
Our opinion on Fan Tan from Evolution Gaming
Evolution Gaming had announced that they wanted to democratize this game mainly appreciated in Asia and more particularly in China by creating their own version of Fan Tan Live. As soon as you arrive on the table, you can feel the efforts that have been made on the visual aspect. The red carpet, the white balls and the golden objects form a visually pleasing mix. The zen atmosphere of the studio and the movements of the dealer are soothing, almost hypnotizing, and this is exactly what Evolution was aiming for. On this side, the game is a total success.
In terms of making this game accessible to Western players, the simple betting patterns make Fan Tan much more accessible to any novice. After a few rounds of play, or as soon as they arrive for more experienced players, the advanced bets become very interesting and allow for a more diverse playing experience.
The interface is very detailed. It is possible to see the number of players who have bet on each different bet as well as the previous results in a very precise table. By opening the "statistics" tab you can see the last 500 results!
Finally, it is very likely that Fan Tan will attract more and more new players thanks to this creation of the giant Evolution.
