WSOP: The first 10 days of competition
Footballers around the world dream of playing in a World Cup one day, as do eSports fans who secretly hope to play in the Worlds once in their lives. For poker fans, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is a must for all fans of the world's most popular card game! This annual event takes place in Las Vegas, the playground of the United States. For this 52nd edition, the WSOP will take place from September 30th to November 23rd 2021, and 88 tournaments will be held, with entry fees ranging from $400 to $250,000 for the most expensive.
Every year, tens of thousands of poker players come from all over the world to participate in the world's most popular poker festival and try to win the famous bracelet promised to the winner of each tournament. After a two-year hiatus due to the health crisis, poker is finally free to resume! Many professional players participate in the Series, but there are also a large number of amateurs who come to try their luck in search of their "One Time".
The WSOP is in full swing and started almost two weeks ago, so it's time for us to take stock of the beginning of this edition of the WSOP.
Lucky7Bonus invites you to take a look back at this very eventful start to the festival! You will find in this article the high level performances of some French players. We also take a look at the records that have been broken in Vegas over the last two weeks and we check in with YoH ViraL who, after winning $500,000 a few weeks ago, is looking to bring home a bracelet.
Pierre Calamusa's colossal performance
The first significant performance of a French player this year is to be credited to Pierre Calamusa, professional player present on the circuit for several years and Team Pro Winamax. This young man from Grenoble started his WSOP in the best way possible by finishing in second place in Event 10, a $1,000 Super Turbo Bounty. After playing a few unsuccessful tournaments, Pierre Calamusa took home over $100,000 in prize money, allowing the French player to play the rest of the festival with much more peace of mind.
Turbo tournaments are aggressive events. The levels increase very quickly, and the eliminations follow one another. Throughout the tournament, Pierre Calamusa managed to avoid the pitfalls and make it to the final heads-up almost easily. The French player got a total of 23 bounties before he reached the duel against the American Michael Perrone. This second place is somewhat frustrating, since the bracelet has never been so close, but it is also very encouraging for the Grenoble player who has prepared like never before for this Worlds Series of Poker.
A WSOP already well underway
More than 20 tournaments have already started in Las Vegas! If the structures are different depending on the events and variants, all these tournaments offer their share of stress and surprises. Among the first winners, there are of course confirmed players, such as Martin Zamani, Jason Koon or John Monnette. All of the WSOP tournaments have been held at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino for over 15 years in the famous Amazon and Pavilion rooms.
This festival could very well be the last one to take place in this hotel, which is very criticized by the players because of its poor location in relation to the heart of Las Vegas. There is still more than a month of competition, and more than 60 tournaments to play in this 52nd edition of the World Series of Poker, but the attendance is slightly down compared to previous editions, especially because of the health restrictions put in place in the United States to enter the country.
The WSOP will nevertheless be the starting point for a gradual return to normal for live poker, as this festival still welcomes tens of thousands of players simultaneously. The most hotly contested event will of course be the WSOP Main Event, which starts on November 4th with Day 1A and will last 9 days for the lucky ones who will have the privilege to reach the final table.
YoH ViraL always wants more
The most famous French player was not going to miss the most famous poker festival in the world! YoH ViraL is of course present in Vegas, with the firm intention to get a bracelet that means so much to professional players. Much more than the money earned from a potential victory, it's the prestige behind it that is important to the world's greatest players, who are above all outstanding competitors. YoH came close to his first triumph at the WSOP 2019 by finishing runner-up in a $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout.
The Maltese resident is looking to build on his incredible success at the Super High Roller Series Europe in Cyprus. The French player achieved the exceptional feat of winning the first $25,000 tournament in his history, also taking home over $500,000 in prize money. This colossal achievement has allowed YoH to approach this festival much more serenely and also to play much bigger tournaments. This enthusiast even takes the time to return to his first love, the Cash Game, between two World Series of Poker tournaments!
The Millionaire Maker keeps all its promises
After the famous WSOP Main Event, another extremely prestigious tournament takes place every year in Las Vegas: the MILLIONAIRE MAKER! This $1,500 event has over $1 million in prize money in store for the winner, and the winner gets to go down in the history of the festival. Only 20 of the 2,568 players who started the tournament are still in contention for the final victory in this 5-day tournament, which is considered a real marathon.
Among the remaining players are some of the biggest names in poker, such as American Stephen Song and Belgian Michael Gathy. There is also a Frenchman among the remaining players, François Pirault. The latter is also a player sponsored by Winamax since the beginning of the year 2021 after winning the tenth edition of the Top Shark Academy! This talented player is looking to add a first title to his record by winning this edition of the Millionaire Maker! Answer in a few hours to know who of the 20 competitors will be crowned world champion of poker and will win this incredible 7 figures sum which makes all the participants dream.
